L is for Leap of Faith

Leaping... can you picture it? Well if not you can see above that I found a lovely picture via google for you!!! Leaping is fun especially if you're a lemur!!

We as writers or creative beings do our best to take a leap of faith on an idea something we've dreamt up or just a solid idea that we think might be worth while to investigate. Sometimes it's a bust other times it's brilliant! I took a huge leap of faith with my current WIP based on to things a story I unknowlingly made up about my husband mixed with a dream, I took a chance now I will tell you that the story I started out with was not the story I began with however it evolved into something so much more that you wouldn't even know it was the same thing! All from one idea from one leap of faith I took a chance and that chance turned out to be the best idea ever!!!

So take a look at yourself today and even though you may have had a bad week or month or year of writing you still came up with one idea and you took a leap of faith! We all stand behind you and support you as you continue to allow your work to evolve into something specatacular! In time the pieces fall together I know last night revising was something that wasn't going to come easy but rather than beating myself up I chose to look at myself and remember that I wrote a book I spent time and energy and put it into something amazing though it's not finished yet the piece I did finish was amazing. So take those small victories and remember those when you're down!!! Continue to take a leap of faith for yourself!!

Are you leaping yet?

By the way today is a big day over at Christine's Journey!! It's the writing line game and it's super fun! Run over to her blog and add to the story I have done this on my blog before and thought about bringing it back so I'm glad to see others want to partake in it!!!

You are so right about the small victories! I am a big leaper. Leap lots. But then I get stranded on the smallest of precipices and vertigo takes hold big time. Remembering the small victories is so true. Yes, I have been here before. Yes, I did not fall. Yes, I cried and will again!
Great post!!

Excellent post Jen!! I'm leaping for sure. But I'm not quite as graceful as that lemur :)

I'm with Christine - I'm leaping, but scared. I love getting the ideas, and putting them down on paper. It's the self-doubt and fear of judgement part that I don't like so much!

Christine - Lets leap together then!! We don't fall so hard if we have other support systems!!

Paul - Good Luck!

Alexandra - Great! I love the positive attitude!!

Jdcoughlin - Thank you! You're so sweet!!!

Justine - Awe Justine you are so sweet! Thank you for such the sweet words!

Crystal - I'm not that graceful either but he's so cute!

Theresa - If you aren't scared then it really isn't worth taking a chance! Dive in!!! We can help pick up the pieces if you fall!

Man, I want a pet lemur. Just wanted that on the record.

Sometimes I feel like my entire life is a leap of faith, but so far I haven't really fallen. A long time ago, I built myself a support net OF myself, so that even in the darkest hour, when there's no one else with me, I still have myself to turn to.

Of course, it's always nicer to be able to turn to others. :-)

Thanks again for the wonderful reminder that writing is a gift and not a chore. I love your enthusiasm!!

My leap is having faith that after i finish these last few pages of edits, that everything will be okay. I'm so scared everyone is going to hate my book and think it is stupid that I can't seem to finish my re-writes, etc. But your reminder has given me some courage.

As someone who appreciates good writing, go for it! Leap! I think in some ways it is a lost skill, so if you have the ability and the skill, do it!

The lemur picture is great! I love taking the figurative leap. (Writing is the only place where I'm particularly brave.) I also love seeing a story bloom in an entirely new direction because I went out on that limb. Thanks for an awesome post.

Leaping is really scary if you have a fear of heights. :/

On the other hand, I've learned that there's nothing worth doing if it doesn't give you that thrill, so hold on tight! Thanks for the reminder!

I took a leap and entered a 1st chapter contest - not because I think I'd win, but because I want the professional feedback! Leaping is not very comfortable, but your lemur picture reminds me of my zoo days. Lemurs are awesome.

Great post; tough to do, but so worth it, to just take a chance! One never knows what may happen! Well said and something, we all need to do, at some point in our lives!
Nice lemur pic!

Aww what a cute lemur! Yes, I'm leaping; I think leaping is part of being a writer. I'm not sure where I'll land, though.

I haven't taken a leap in a long time. I used to do it more when I was younger. Now, the biggest ones are submitting to agents. Great post.

Love the picture! I leap, and stumble, and leap again, and miss, and leap, and land - although thie time slightly higher than before, which makes me smile, take a deep breath, and leap once more.

Every time I sit down to write it's a leap of faith! I just remind myself to keep going no matter what and eventually the leap will pay off. This was a great entry. Thanks so much for sharing, Jen! :D

I often use dreams for story ideas. They always have to evolve though for no matter how much sense it made during the dream or upon waking there is usually a lack of logic that has to be tweaked.

Great post!

Leaps of faith are so important, not just in writing but in life too. Because if we don't believe in atleast SOMETHING we'd never be happy.

I don't know why I'm still so scared to take that leap, because almost every leap of faith I've taken has paid off.

Doesn't matter. Every time, I'm scared to death. Thanks for this post and how it encourages me to take another leap.

We can learn so much from lemurs. :) Encouraging post as always!

I can't believe I missed your post this morning when I was blogging.

I think I'm always taking a leap of faith when I'm coming up with ideas. Our biggest leap of faith is that no one else has come up with the same idea as us and that it's not in some publisher's upcoming catalouge. There's nothing you can do if that happens. Other than drown your sorrows in chocolate.

Great post as usual! :D
